Hey! You Ran Over My Foot!

A few weeks ago, G-lo and Zayde took Charlie to the vet for a regular check up and some shots. Everyone who works there is so nice, and they shower each dog and cat with a lot of love. Charlie likes going there.

On this particular day, the vet's assistant came into Charlie's little room to weigh her and make sure she'd been feeling well and acting healthy. The assistant was so nice, and Charlie stayed close to her as she sat down on a stool (which has wheels on it) at the desk station. The assistant didn't realize that Charlie was so close. When she sat down and then moved the stool back a bit, the wheels of the stool ran over Charlie's foot. It must have hurt a lot, because Charlie (who is usually so quiet) let out a very loud YELP!!!

Charlie cried and whimpered and then limped over toward G-Lo and Zayde for a few hugs. She then proceeded to hide underneath the chair by the door. She wanted out of there! Zayde picked her up. Charlie was shivering and couldn't stop no matter what any of us said to her to try and calm her down.

Ever since that day, when G-Lo and Zayde take Charlie for walks, they make a point of walking by the vet so Charlie can start to feel better about the place after her sad experience. She tugs and pulls on her leash, or she just won't move, as if to say "I don't want to go near that place ever again!"

Charlie soon had another appointment with the vet. As she approached the building with her humans, she started to get nervous and upset. She didn't want to go inside. Once she was called into the little exam room, she started shaking like crazy. She was not happy and was afraid, because she remembered what happened to her the last time. The vet came in, and she scooped Charlie up in her arms, began kissing her little face, stroking her soft coat, giving her delicious treats and talking calmly and lovingly to her nervous patient.

Charlie never did stop shaking, but she realized that what had happened was an accident and that the people at the clinic, especially her vet, Dr. Lord, loves her very much and would never do anything to intentionally hurt or upset her. She decided to be very brave and let the exam go on.

The next time Charlie has an appointment at the vet, it should be a little easier. And the next time after that, too. And the next time...

Charlie now weighs 7 1/2 pounds

Dr. Lord checks out Charlie's eyes and sneaks her a treat while doing so

She also checked out her teeth

Charlie has lost many of her baby teeth

Dr. Lord loves Charlie so much
